I’ve finally started doing test shoots and really planning out this beauty project I’m working on. I have my models chosen, themes for the most part finalized and a I have a pretty good sense of how I want it lit (you can see the one bright shot on the left that I circled. That gives you a taste of the direction I’m going). Its definitely fun buckling down on one concept and really working through it. This first test shoot was mainly to get a sense of exposures, I want to pretty much eliminate skin tone and leave only outlines for the final shots. To make it more interesting I want a fair amount of motion blur to the images as well (Hence the movement shots on the right). The set up is a 4 light set up. Two strip lights on the background to even it out, then two soft boxes on the model. The slightly higher contrast on the left was achieved through push processing one stop. Next test will be a roll at one stop and another at two stops.
From here I want to experiment further with getting a sort of illustrative or sketch like appearance to the images, so I’m going to play more with the angles of the light as well as movement.
I’ve got a shoot booked with my male model for close to the end of the month and am working to shoot this lovely lady around then as well. But first, another test shoot…
On a side note, sitting with a loop and a pen and pouring over contact sheets is way more fun that organizing photos on a computer.
